Toluene, an organic compound with chemical formula of C7H8, is a colorless volatile liquid with special fragrance. It has strong refraction. It is miscible with ethanol, ether, acetone, chloroform, carbon disulfide and glacial acetic acid, and very slightly soluble in water. Flammable, vapor can form explosive mixture with air, and the mixture can explode when its volume concentration is in a low range. Low toxicity, half lethal dose (rat, oral) 5000mg/kg. High concentration gas is anesthetic and irritant.

Skin contact: take off contaminated clothes and wash skin thoroughly with soap and water.

Inhalation: quickly leave the site to fresh air. Keep respiratory tract unobstructed. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. If breathing stops, carry out artificial respiration immediately. Get medical attention.

Precautions for operation: close operation and strengthen ventilation. Operators must receive special training and strictly abide by the operating procedures. It is recommended that operators wear self-priming filter gas mask (half mask), chemical safety goggles, anti-poison penetration work clothes and rubber oil-resistant gloves. Keep away from kindling and heat sources. Smoking is strictly prohibited in the workplace. Use explosion-proof ventilation system and equipment. Prevent steam from leaking into the air of the workplace. Avoid contact with oxidants. During filling, the flow rate should be controlled, and there should be a grounding device to prevent the accumulation of static electricity. Handle with care to prevent damage to packaging and containers. Provide fire fighting equipment and leakage emergency treatment equipment of corresponding types and quantities. Empty containers may contain harmful substances.
Storage precautions: store in a cool and ventilated warehouse. Keep away from kindling and heat sources. The storage temperature should not exceed 30 ℃. Keep container sealed. It shall be stored separately from oxidant and shall not be mixed. Explosion-proof lighting and ventilation facilities shall be adopted. It is forbidden to use mechanical equipment and tools that are easy to produce sparks. The storage area shall be equipped with leakage emergency treatment equipment and appropriate storage materials.
