[News & Trends]:What are the effects and uses of acetic anhydride

Acetic anhydride, also known as acetic anhydride, is a colorless and transparent liquid with a strong acidic odor, and its vapor is a tear gas. It can be miscible with trichloromethane, benzene and ether. Easily soluble in water. Mixed with water to produce acetic acid. Dissolve in ethanol to produce ethyl acetate. Flammable, its vapor and air can form an explosive mixture, in contact with open flame, high heat can cause combustion and explosion. Contact with strong oxidizing agent can lead to chemical reaction.

Six roles and uses of acetic anhydride

1. Used for testing alcohols, aromatic primary and secondary amines
2. used in organic synthesis, dyestuff, pharmaceutical industry and manufacture of acetyl compounds
3. Used in the production of modified starch
4. Used as an active modifier to make wood durable and long lasting by autoclave impregnation and subsequent acetylation
5. Used in the production of aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid)
6. for the conversion of cellulose into cellulose acetate, a component of photographic films and other coating materials, used in the manufacture of cigarette filters
