[News & Trends]:What are the production methods and production processes of PBAT, and what are the commonly used raw materials

PBAT is a biodegradable plastic that has gradually gained attention in recent years due to its environmental performance and degradability. In the field of raw materials for chemical production, there are mainly two manufacturing methods for PBAT: blending method and chemical synthesis method. This article will provide a detailed introduction to these two manufacturing methods

1、 Blending method

Blending method is a method of blending PBAT with other biodegradable plastics to improve their properties and processing performance. Common blend materials include PLA, PHA, PCL, etc. The specific manufacturing steps are as follows:

1 Preparation of raw materials: PBAT resin, other biodegradable plastics, additives, etc

2. Ingredients: Add PBAT resin and other biodegradable plastics, additives, etc. in a certain proportion to the mixer for thorough mixing

3. Plasticization: The mixed material is added to an internal mixer or twin-screw extruder for high-temperature and high-pressure plasticization, making it uniformly mixed and forming particles of a certain shape

4. Cooling: Cool the plasticized particles to prevent deformation and adhesion

5. Packaging: Pack the cooled particles for transportation and use

The blending method can greatly improve the processing and mechanical properties of PBAT, reduce costs, and expand its application range. However, the selection and proportion of blend materials need to be optimized according to specific application scenarios to ensure the performance and degradability of the product

2、 Chemical synthesis method is a method of synthesizing PBAT through chemical reactions. The specific manufacturing steps are as follows:

1 Preparation of raw materials: dimethyl terephthalate (DMT), 1,4-butanediol (BDO), adipic acid (AA), etc

2. Ester exchange reaction: DMT and BDO undergo ester exchange reaction to generate dibutyl terephthalate (DBT) and methanol

3. Polycondensation reaction: DBT is polymerized with AA to produce PBAT resin

4. Post treatment: Post treat the generated PBAT resin, including steps such as granulation, drying, and packaging

The chemical synthesis method can produce high-purity and high-performance PBAT resin, which is suitable for high-end applications. However, the production cost of this method is high and strict control of reaction conditions and raw material quality is required to ensure product quality and yield

In summary, there are two main manufacturing methods for PBAT: blending and chemical synthesis. The blending method can improve the processing and mechanical properties of PBAT, reduce costs, and expand its application range; The chemical synthesis method can produce high-purity and high-performance PBAT resin, which is suitable for high-end applications. In actual production, suitable manufacturing methods can be selected according to specific application scenarios to meet the needs of different fields.
