[News & Trends]:What are the production methods and production processes of PBS, and what are the commonly used raw materials

PBS (polybutylene succinate) is a biodegradable polyester material widely used in the field of chemical raw materials due to its environmental performance and biocompatibility. This article will introduce the manufacturing method of PBS

1、 The main raw materials required for the manufacturing of PBS include succinic acid and butanediol. Among them, succinic acid can be obtained through microbial fermentation, while butanediol can be obtained through the oxidation of petrochemical raw materials ethylene and propylene. In the process of raw material preparation, it is necessary to ensure the purity and quality of the raw materials to avoid adverse effects on subsequent polymerization reactions

2、 The manufacturing of PBS adopts polymerization reaction, which is generally divided into two steps: pre polymerization and final polymerization

1. Pre polymerization

In the pre polymerization reaction, succinic acid and butanediol undergo esterification and condensation reactions under the action of a catalyst, generating low molecular weight prepolymers. Common catalysts include tetrabutyl titanate, zinc acetate, etc. Pre polymerization reactions are generally carried out under vacuum conditions to improve reaction efficiency and product quality

2. Final polymerization

In the final polymerization reaction, the prepolymer is further condensed into a high molecular weight PBS. The final polymerization reaction generally adopts the melt polymerization method, which further condenses the prepolymer under high temperature and high vacuum, while discharging the by-product water and unreacted raw materials. The final polymerization reaction requires controlling the reaction temperature and vacuum degree to ensure the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of the product

3、 After the completion of PBS manufacturing, product post-processing is required, including cutting, drying, packaging and other processes. Among them, pelletizing is the process of cutting PBS polymer into particles of a certain length to facilitate subsequent processing and use; Drying is to remove moisture and other impurities from the product; Packaging is to protect product quality and facilitate transportation

4、 Manufacturing precautions: In the manufacturing process of PBS, the following precautions need to be taken:

1 Control the quality and purity of raw materials to avoid adverse effects on polymerization reactions

2. Control the temperature, vacuum degree, and catalyst dosage of the polymerization reaction to ensure the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of the product

During the post-processing of the product, attention should be paid to the drying and packaging of the product to avoid affecting its quality

In summary, the manufacturing of PBS requires strict control of process parameters and quality indicators at each stage to ensure product quality and output. Meanwhile, with the continuous improvement of environmental awareness, PBS, as a biodegradable and environmentally friendly material, its application fields will also continue to expand.
