[News & Trends]:What are the production methods and manufacturing processes of SEBS, as well as the commonly used raw materials

SEBS (hydrogenated styrene butadiene styrene triblock copolymer) is an important raw material for chemical production, widely used in plastic modification, rubber products, adhesives, lubricants and other fields. Below, we will introduce a manufacturing method for SEBS

1、 Raw material preparation

1 Styrene (St): Industrial grade, purity ≥ 99%

2. Butadiene (Bd): Industrial grade, purity ≥ 98%

3. Hydrogen: Industrial grade, purity ≥ 99%

4. Catalyst: Lithium chloride (LiCl) and alkyl aluminum (such as triethylaluminum)

2、 Manufacturing process

1 Polymerization reaction: Add styrene, butadiene, and catalyst to the polymerization kettle, heat to a certain temperature (usually 50-80 ℃), and carry out solution polymerization reaction. During the reaction process, it is necessary to control the monomer concentration, reaction temperature, and stirring speed to obtain appropriate molecular weight and molecular weight distribution

2. Hydrogenation reaction

The product obtained from the polymerization reaction is hydrogenated to saturate the double bonds of the butadiene segment. The hydrogenation reaction needs to be carried out in the presence of high-pressure hydrogen gas, and the reaction temperature and pressure need to be adjusted according to the specific situation. After the hydrogenation reaction is completed, post-treatment is required to remove unreacted hydrogen gas and catalyst

3. Devolatilization treatment

Perform devolatilization treatment on the SEBS product obtained from hydrogenation reaction to remove residual styrene and butadiene monomers. Devolatilization treatment can be carried out under vacuum conditions to reduce the volatile content of the product

4. Granulation and Packaging

Granulate the SEBS product after volatilization treatment to obtain a granular product that is easy to transport and store. After granulation is completed, packaging is required to avoid moisture and contamination of the product

3、 Notes

1 Strict control of various process parameters is required in the manufacturing process to ensure product quality and output

2. Strict quality testing and control of raw materials are required to avoid adverse effects on product quality

3. During the hydrogenation reaction process, it is necessary to pay attention to safety and avoid accidents such as hydrogen leakage and fire

In summary, the manufacturing method of SEBS requires multiple steps, including polymerization reaction, hydrogenation reaction, devolatilization treatment, and granulation packaging. Strict control of various process parameters and raw material quality is required in the manufacturing process to ensure product quality and output. At the same time, it is necessary to pay attention to safety production and avoid accidents.
