[News & Trends]:The production method and process flow of PTT, and what are the commonly used raw materials

PTT (polyethylene terephthalate) is a high-performance engineering plastic with excellent heat resistance, chemical resistance, electrical insulation, and mechanical properties. It is widely used in fields such as automobiles, electronics, aerospace, construction, and medical equipment. In the field of raw materials for chemical production, there are two main manufacturing methods for PTT: melt polymerization and solution polymerization

1、 Melt polycondensation is a method of esterification and polymerization of terephthalic acid (PTA) and 1,3-propanediol (PDO) in a molten state to generate PTT polymer compounds. The process flow of this method is as follows:

1 Add PTA and PDO in proportion to the reactor, introduce inert gas protection, and heat to a molten state

Under the action of a catalyst, an esterification reaction is carried out to generate dipropylene terephthalate (BHET)

3. Conduct a condensation reaction on BHET to generate PTT polymer compounds

4. By extrusion granulation, PTT pellets are obtained

The advantages of melt condensation method are that it can directly obtain granular materials, high production efficiency, and low cost. However, the reaction conditions of this method are relatively harsh, requiring high temperature and high pressure, and requiring high equipment requirements

2、 Solution condensation method

Solution condensation method is a method of dissolving PTA and PDO in a solvent, and conducting esterification and condensation reactions under the action of a catalyst to generate PTT polymer compounds. The process flow of this method is as follows:

1 Add PTA and PDO in proportion to the solvent, introduce inert gas protection, and heat to a certain temperature

Under the action of catalyst, esterification reaction is carried out to generate BHET

3. Conduct a condensation reaction on BHET to generate PTT polymer compounds

4. Obtain PTT powder or fiber through steps such as precipitation, washing, and drying

The advantage of solution condensation method is that the reaction conditions are relatively mild and the equipment requirements are low. However, this method requires a large amount of solvents, resulting in lower production efficiency and higher costs

Regardless of the method used to manufacture PTT, strict control of reaction conditions and raw material quality is required to ensure the performance and quality of the product. At the same time, it is necessary to pay attention to environmental protection and safety during the production process to avoid harm to the environment and personnel

In summary, the manufacturing method of PTT needs to be selected based on specific production conditions and needs to ensure product performance and quality, while reducing production costs and improving the competitiveness of the enterprise.
