[News & Trends]:The production method and process flow of calcium carbonate, and what are the commonly used raw materials

The manufacturing method of calcium carbonate

1. Introduction

Calcium carbonate is a widely used raw material for chemical production, which has excellent physical and chemical properties such as high whiteness, high purity, low oil content, and low oil absorption. Therefore, calcium carbonate is widely used in various fields such as plastics, rubber, coatings, papermaking, inks, ceramics, medicine, and food. This article will provide a detailed introduction to the manufacturing method of calcium carbonate

2、 Manufacturing method

1 The precipitation method is the main method for producing calcium carbonate. Its principle is to add an alkaline absorbent to a solution containing calcium ions, which reacts with the calcium ions in the solution to form calcium carbonate precipitate. The specific steps are as follows:

(1) Preparation of calcium salt solution: Calcinate calcium containing ores such as limestone or dolomite into calcium oxide, then add water to digest and generate calcium hydroxide, and then introduce carbon dioxide gas to generate heavy calcium carbonate precipitation and calcium bicarbonate solution

(2) Purification treatment: Purify the calcium bicarbonate solution to remove impurities, ions, and organic matter

(3) Carbonization reaction: Injecting carbon dioxide gas into the purified calcium bicarbonate solution, causing it to react with calcium ions in the solution to form calcium carbonate precipitate

(4) Separation and drying: Separate the precipitate of calcium carbonate from the mother liquor, and then perform washing, drying, and other treatments to obtain the finished calcium carbonate

2. Decomposition method

Decomposition method is the process of heating carbonate ore to decompose into calcium oxide and carbon dioxide, then introducing carbon dioxide into water to form a solution of calcium bicarbonate, and then adding alkaline absorbent to form a precipitate of calcium carbonate. The specific steps are as follows:

(1) Calcination of carbonate ore: Calcinate limestone or dolomite and other carbonate ores to 900-1100 ℃ to decompose and generate calcium oxide and carbon dioxide

(2) Digestion and carbonization: The calcined calcium oxide is digested with water to form calcium hydroxide, and then carbon dioxide gas is introduced to form a solution of calcium bicarbonate

(3) Precipitation of calcium carbonate: Adding an alkaline absorbent to a solution of calcium bicarbonate to react with calcium ions in the solution to form a precipitate of calcium carbonate

(4) Separation and drying: Separate the precipitate of calcium carbonate from the mother liquor, and then perform washing, drying, and other treatments to obtain the finished calcium carbonate

3、 The manufacturing process of calcium carbonate is influenced by various factors, such as the quality of raw materials, reaction temperature, reaction time, pH value, stirring speed, etc. These factors will all affect the particle size distribution, whiteness, purity, and other properties of calcium carbonate. Therefore, it is necessary to strictly control these factors in the production process to ensure product quality

4、 Conclusion: Calcium carbonate is an important raw material for chemical production, and its manufacturing methods mainly include precipitation method and decomposition method. Strict control of various influencing factors is required in the production process to ensure product quality. Meanwhile, with the continuous development of technology, the manufacturing methods and processes of calcium carbonate also need to be continuously improved and optimized to improve production efficiency and product performance, and meet the constantly changing market demands.
