I. Introduction

Propionic acid is a common organic acid with wide application value. In the field of raw materials for chemical production, propionic acid can be used as solvents, preservatives, flavors and so on. Therefore, it is of great significance to study the manufacturing method of propionic acid to improve the production efficiency and purity of propionic acid. In this paper, the manufacturing method of propionic acid will be introduced in detail, in order to provide reference for the actual production.

II. Nature and Manufacturing Method of Propionic Acid

1. Nature of Propionic Acid

Propionic acid is a kind of colorless liquid with irritating odor and strong corrosiveness. Its chemical properties are stable and not easy to burn, but it has high reactivity with alkali and metal.

2. Manufacturing method of propionic acid

(1) Propionic acid fermentation method: the use of microbial fermentation to produce propionic acid, the main raw materials are glucose, lactic acid and so on. During the fermentation process, the microorganisms convert the raw materials into propionic acid, and at the same time produce carbon dioxide and water.

(2) Propionaldehyde Oxidation Method: Propionaldehyde is oxidized with air or oxygen to produce propionic acid. This method requires the presence of a catalyst to improve the reaction rate and selectivity.

(3) Petrochemical Feedstock Method: Petrochemical feedstock is used as raw material to produce propionic acid through a series of chemical reactions. The production process of this method is more complicated, but the raw materials are widely available.

III. Experimental Part

1. Experimental Principles and Methods

This experiment adopts propionic acid fermentation method to produce propionic acid, taking glucose as raw material and utilizing the metabolism of microorganisms to convert glucose into propionic acid. The specific process includes microbial culture, fermentation, separation and purification steps.

2. Experimental operation process and condition control

(1) Microbial culture: select appropriate microbial strains and carry out expanded culture to obtain enough bacteria for fermentation.

(2) Fermentation: Mix glucose with the bacteria and carry out fermentation under appropriate temperature, pH and aeration conditions. During the fermentation process, samples should be taken periodically to test the propionic acid concentration and the growth of the bacteria.

(3) Separation and purification: After fermentation, separate the bacteria from the fermentation broth by centrifugation and filtration. The fermentation broth was subjected to acidification, extraction and distillation to obtain propionic acid with higher purity.

3. Results and Discussion

The experimental results showed that under the optimized process conditions, the production efficiency of propionic acid could reach X g/L, and the purity could reach more than X%. Appropriate temperature, pH and aeration conditions have important effects on the production of propionic acid. In addition, the metabolic ability of different microbial strains varies greatly, so the selection of appropriate strains is critical for improving the production efficiency of propionic acid.

IV.CONCLUSION

In this study, propionic acid with high purity was produced by propionic acid fermentation, and the effects of process conditions on the production efficiency and purity of propionic acid were investigated. The experimental results showed that the production efficiency and purity of propionic acid could reach a high level under the optimized process conditions. This study provides a useful reference for the actual production and helps to improve the production level of propionic acid.
