Manufacturing method of isobutyryl chloride
I. Introduction

II. Materials and Equipment
1. Materials: isobutyric acid, phosphorus trichloride, benzene, sodium hydroxide solution.
2. Equipment: reactor, condenser, water separator, stirrer, thermometer, dropping funnel.
3. Manufacturing method
1. Add isobutyric acid into the reactor, turn on the stirrer and keep proper stirring speed.
2. Add phosphorus trichloride slowly by dripping funnel, meanwhile turn on the condenser to control the reaction temperature within a certain range.
3. After dropping, continue stirring for a certain period of time to make the reaction proceed adequately.
4. Slowly add benzene to the reactor to reduce the viscosity of the system and at the same time act as a diluent.
5. Separate the resulting water and benzene in a water separator and collect the organic phase.
6. The organic phase is washed with sodium hydroxide solution to neutralize the acid in it.
7. Isobutyryl chloride is separated by distillation and the product with higher purity is collected.
4. Precautions
1. Strictly control the reaction temperature to prevent too high or too low to affect the reaction and product quality.
2. The dripping of phosphorus trichloride should be carried out slowly to avoid too fast resulting in local overheating.
3. The water separator should be drained in time to prevent water from accumulating and affecting the separation effect.
4. The distillation temperature and vacuum degree should be controlled to ensure the product quality.
