Manufacturing Method of Diethyl Succinate
I. Introduction
Diethyl Succinate (Diethyl Succinate) is an important organic chemical raw material, which is widely used in the fields of medicine, pesticide, plastics, spices and so on. Therefore, it is of great significance to study the manufacturing method of Diethyl Succinate. In this paper, a common manufacturing method of diethyl succinate will be introduced.
II. Materials and Equipment
1. Materials: succinic acid, ethanol, sulfuric acid, sodium hydroxide.
2. Equipment: reactor, condenser, water separator, stirrer, thermometer, pH meter.
3. Manufacturing steps
1. Esterification reaction
Add succinic acid and ethanol in the reactor and stir well. Then slowly add sulfuric acid as catalyst. Heat the reaction kettle, keep the temperature at 80-90°C and react for about 4-5 hours. During this process, the water is constantly divided to maintain the concentration of alcohol in the reaction system. The esterification reaction ends when the succinic acid is completely dissolved and there is no further increase in water in the reaction system.
2. Neutralization reaction
The reaction solution is cooled to room temperature and then neutralized with sodium hydroxide solution to a pH of 7-8, allowing the sulfuric acid catalyst to be completely neutralized. The aqueous layer was separated and the organic phase was collected.
3. Distillation and purification
The collected organic phase is distilled, the unreacted ethanol is first distilled out at atmospheric pressure, and then the diethyl succinate is collected by distillation under reduced pressure, and the purity can reach more than 99%.
4. Precautions
1. Strictly control the reaction temperature to prevent the decomposition of succinic acid.
2. Replenish ethanol in time during water splitting to maintain the concentration of alcohol in the reaction system.
3. Control the pH value during neutralization reaction to avoid excessive alkalization.
4. Appropriate vacuum should be maintained during distillation to avoid high temperature decomposition.
V. Conclusion
Through the steps of esterification reaction, neutralization reaction and distillation purification, high purity diethyl succinate can be manufactured. In the actual production process, the operating conditions of each step should be strictly controlled to ensure product quality and yield. The manufacturing method introduced in this paper has the advantages of easy operation, easy availability of raw materials and low cost, and is suitable for industrialized production. Through continuous optimization of the production process, the production efficiency and purity of diethyl succinate can be improved, providing strong support for the development of pharmaceuticals, pesticides, plastics, spices and other fields.
