Manufacturing Method of Barium Hydroxide
Barium hydroxide is an important inorganic chemical raw material, widely used in chemical industry, metallurgy, medicine, environmental protection and other fields. This article will introduce the manufacturing method of barium hydroxide, including raw material preparation, reaction process, post-treatment and precautions.
I. Raw material preparation
The main raw materials for manufacturing barium hydroxide are barium carbonate and sodium hydroxide. Barium carbonate should be white powder without impurities, and the content is above 98%. Sodium hydroxide should be white flake or granular solid, with purity above 96%. In addition, a certain amount of deionized water should be prepared as the reaction medium.
II. Reaction process
1. Add barium carbonate and deionized water into the reactor in a certain proportion and stir well to make a suspension.
2. Under stirring, slowly add sodium hydroxide solution, control the rate of adding alkali, so that the reaction temperature does not exceed 60 ℃.
3. A large amount of carbon dioxide gas will be generated during the reaction, keep the reactor well ventilated and discharge the gas in time.
4. At the end of the reaction, filter to remove the un-reacted barium carbonate precipitate and get barium hydroxide solution.
3. Post-treatment
1. Add appropriate amount of activated carbon to the barium hydroxide solution, stir well and leave it for a while to adsorb the colored impurities in the solution.
2. Filter off the activated carbon, and vacuum concentrate the filtrate to obtain the barium hydroxide concentrate.
3. The concentrate was cooled to room temperature and barium hydroxide crystals were precipitated.
4. Collect the crystals by filtration, wash them with a small amount of deionized water, and dry them to get the finished product of barium hydroxide.
4. Precautions
1. Pay attention to safety during operation and avoid contact with alkaline substances and carbon dioxide gas.
2. The speed of adding alkali should be strictly controlled during the reaction process to prevent local over-density from producing barium carbonate precipitation, which will affect the product quality.
3. The equipment should be kept clean during the post-treatment process to avoid the introduction of impurities.
4. The finished product should be stored in a dry and cool place, avoiding contact with acidic substances.
In conclusion, the manufacturing method of barium hydroxide requires knowledge of raw material preparation, reaction process, post-treatment and precautions. By strictly controlling the operating conditions and strengthening the maintenance of equipment, high quality barium hydroxide products can be manufactured to provide a stable supply of raw materials for chemical production.
