Manufacturing method of resorcinol
I. Introduction
Resorcinol, also known as resorcinic acid or 1,3-benzenediol, is an important organic chemical raw material widely used in the fields of medicine, pesticide, dyestuffs, rubber, plastics, antioxidants and so on. Due to its unique chemical properties and wide range of applications, the manufacturing method of resorcinol has attracted much attention. In this paper, the manufacturing methods of resorcinol will be introduced in detail, including chemical synthesis method, biological method and other new methods.
II. Chemical synthesis method
1. Phenol method: Resorcinol is produced by sulfonation, alkali fusion, acidification and other steps using phenol as raw material. This method is a mature process, but the production process produces a large amount of wastewater, environmental protection pressure.
2. m-xylene method: m-xylene is used as raw material to produce resorcinol through oxidation, hydrolysis and other steps. This method is easy to obtain raw materials, but the production process requires high pressure and high temperature conditions, and equipment investment is large.
Third, biological method
Biological method is a method to convert raw materials into resorcinol through the metabolism of microorganisms. Compared with the chemical synthesis method, the biological method has the advantages of environmental protection, energy saving, etc., and it is gradually becoming a hot spot of research.
1. Microbial Fermentation: Utilizing certain microorganisms that are able to use phenol or its derivatives as a carbon source and energy source, and convert it to resorcinol through metabolic action. The conditions of this method are mild, but the screening and cultivation of microbial strains are more difficult.
2. Biocatalytic method: Using enzymes or whole-cell catalysts to specifically convert the substrate to generate resorcinol. This method has the advantages of high selectivity and high yield, but the stability of the catalyst needs to be improved.
Four, other new methods
1. Electrochemical method: oxidize phenol or its derivatives to resorcinol by electrolysis. This method has the advantages of green environmental protection, energy saving and high efficiency, but the equipment investment and operating costs are high.
2. Photocatalytic method: Phenol or its derivatives are converted to resorcinol by using photocatalysts under light conditions. This method has mild conditions and high selectivity, but the activity of photocatalyst needs to be improved.
V. Conclusion
Resorcinol can be manufactured by various methods, including chemical synthesis, biological method and other new methods. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages, and the appropriate method should be selected according to the actual situation. With the increase of environmental awareness and the continuous progress of technology, biological method and other new methods gradually become the hot spots of research, which are expected to realize the green and efficient production of resorcinol in the future.
