MBS (Methyl Methacrylate-Butadiene-Styrene) is a commonly used raw material for the production of chemicals, which is widely used in the fields of plastic modification, coatings and adhesives. The following is the manufacturing method of MBS:
1. Dosing
First, methyl methacrylate (MMA), butadiene and styrene need to be dosed in a certain proportion. Generally, the mass ratio of MMA, butadiene and styrene is 50% to 70%, 20% to 40% and 10% to 30%.
2. Emulsion polymerization
The dosed raw materials are added to a reactor, and initiators, emulsifiers and other additives are added to carry out the emulsion polymerization reaction. Emulsion polymerization can be carried out at a lower temperature, while higher molecular weight and narrower molecular weight distribution can be obtained.
3. Emulsion breaking, washing, drying
The polymer emulsion undergoes the process of emulsion breaking, washing and drying to obtain MBS powder. Emulsion breaking is generally done by adding salt or acid to precipitate the polymer in the emulsion. Washing is done to remove the residual emulsifier and other impurities, and drying is done to remove the water from the MBS powder.
4. Extrusion Pelletizing
The dried MBS powder is plasticized through an extruder, and then water-cooled and pelletized to obtain MBS pellets.
In general, the manufacturing method of MBS is not complicated, but it requires certain chemical knowledge and technology. Meanwhile, in order to ensure the quality and stability of the product, the process parameters of each process and the quality of raw materials need to be strictly controlled.
