I. INTRODUCTION

Diisopropyl ether (DIPE) is an important raw material for the production of chemicals, which is widely used in the fields of solvents, detergents, extractants and so on. With the continuous development of the chemical industry, the demand for diisopropyl ether is gradually increasing. Therefore, it is of great significance to study the manufacturing method of diisopropyl ether to improve the production efficiency and quality to promote the development of chemical industry.

II. MATERIALS AND METHODS

1. MATERIALS

The raw material required for this experiment is isopropyl alcohol (IPA).

2. Equipment

The experimental equipment includes reactor, condenser, water separator, thermometer, stirrer and so on.

3. Manufacturing method

(1) Isopropyl alcohol was added to the reactor and heated to a certain temperature.

(2) Under the action of stirring, pass the acid catalyst to make isopropanol undergo dehydration reaction to produce diisopropyl ether and water.

(3) The water vapor produced by the reaction is condensed into water droplets by means of a condenser and collected in a water separator.

(4) At the end of the reaction, a distillation operation is carried out to separate the diisopropyl ether and the under-reacted isopropanol.

(5) The diisopropyl ether obtained by distillation was refined to remove impurities from it.

III. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

1. Effect of reaction temperature on the yield of diisopropyl ether

The experimental results show that the reaction temperature has an important effect on the yield of diisopropyl ether. In the suitable temperature range, the yield of diisopropyl ether increased gradually with the increase of temperature. However, when the temperature exceeds a certain value, the yield decreases instead. This may be due to the increase of side reactions or the deactivation of the catalyst at high temperatures. Therefore, choosing a suitable reaction temperature is the key to increase the yield of diisopropyl ether.

2. The effect of catalyst type and dosage on the yield of diisopropyl ether

The experimental results show that different kinds of acid catalysts have a large effect on the yield of diisopropyl ether. Meanwhile, the dosage of catalyst also affects the yield. The yield of diisopropyl ether can be significantly improved under the appropriate catalyst type and dosage. Therefore, it is important to choose the appropriate catalyst type and dosage to improve the yield.

3. Effect of reaction time on the yield of diisopropyl ether

The experimental results show that the yield of diisopropyl ether increases gradually with the extension of reaction time. However, when the reaction time exceeded a certain value, the increase in yield decreased. This may be due to the fact that at the later stage of the reaction, the concentration of reactants decreases and the reaction rate slows down. Therefore, choosing the appropriate reaction time can improve the productivity.

IV.CONCLUSION

In this study, the manufacturing method of diisopropyl ether was explored experimentally, and the effects of factors such as reaction temperature, catalyst type and dosage, and reaction time on the yield were investigated. The results showed that high purity diisopropyl ether could be produced under suitable conditions. This study provides theoretical basis and technical guidance for the production of diisopropyl ether, which can help to improve the production efficiency and quality and promote the development of chemical industry.
