[News & Trends]:What are the functions and uses of epichlorohydrin

  Epoxypropane is a colorless, etheric liquid with a low boiling point and flammable. Chiral, industrial product is generally a racemic mixture of two enantiomers. Partially miscible with water, miscible with ethanol and ether. Forms a binary azeotropic mixture with pentane, pentene, cyclopentane, cyclopentene and dichloromethane. Toxic, irritating to mucous membranes and skin, can damage cornea and conjunctiva, cause respiratory pain, skin burns and swelling, and even tissue necrosis

  Four roles and uses of epichlorohydrin

  1. It can be used as wetting agent, emulsifier, bactericide, plasticizer, descaling agent and surfactant, etc;

  2. used in the preparation of propylene glycol, propionaldehyde, isopropanolamine, synthetic glycerin, organic acid esters, etc.

  3. used in the manufacture of polyurethane foam, polyether

  4. Important raw material for organic synthesis, used in the manufacture of propylene glycol, acryl alcohol, propionaldehyde, synthetic glycerol, organic acid, synthetic resin, foam, plasticizer, surfactant, emulsifier, wetting agent, detergent, fungicide, fumigant, etc.

  5. Used as a solvent for cellulose acetate, cellulose nitrate and resin, etc.

  6. Epichlorohydrin reacts with ammonia to produce isopropanolamine (monoisopropanolamine, diisopropanolamine, triisopropanolamine), which is alkaline and can absorb acidic gas and is widely used for gas purification, such as desulfurization and carbon dioxide removal in synthetic ammonia industry.
